What is Salvation Mountain? Salvation Mountain is literally a giant technicolor mountain created by Leonard C. Knight from 1986 - 2011. It was overlaid and reinforced with hand-mixed adobe and painted over with multiple layers of donated household paint. It's currently maintained by Salvation Mountain Inc. 501(c)(3), a non-profit Leonard set up made up of 9 dedicated board members. It's located in the Sonoran desert of Southern California in a far flung place called Slab City, California.
