NeSU is one of, if not the Internet's only online social learning platform specifically for unschool families, or homeschoolers that fully allow their children to take on the responsibility of their own education. Unschooling also can be called child self-directed learning.
NeSU offers the following services for unschoolers:
1). 2X weekly live meetings for unschool students to gather for social learning opportunities including sharing their personal learning interests and receiving optional mentorship per interest with facilitator, Gloria Brooks.
2). Child chosen access to 25+ of NatureGlo's MathArt and natural science online courses.
3). 1X weekly support for parent unschool coaching and training with Q & A.
4). Weekly child sharing of what they choose to do with their time during the week.
NatureGlo's facilitated weekly live unschool meetings are at set dates and times using the Zoom live classroom. Students are given the Zoom live links. Links are included for computers, phones, and other mobile devices. The classes are for children to both showcase any life learning they've done over the week and can include projects, videos, pictures etc. to show the rest of the members. It can include Q & A with discussions about topics of interest within NatureGlo's MathArt or Science online courses.
It is expected both during live meetings and in any communications shared on the NeSU eLearning platform that all parents and children already know how to govern and control their own behaviors, and therefore "harm none." Disruptive behaviors can include things such as spamming or saying unkind or inappropriate or negative remarks about anyone's chosen learning interests and shared work. We are expected to treat each other and the facilitator, Gloria Brooks, and other parents with continual dignity, respect and not purposely continue to offend or hurt anyone with words or behaviors.
There is a no bullying policy at NeSU. If any adult or child bullies anyone, please report the instance immediately to Gloria Brooks. Gloria will contact the families involved. In rare circumstances, where deemed necessary, Gloria Brooks reserves the right to remove any families with unruly children and or parents without any refunds (if the refund period has passed) from NeSU that continually disrespect any of the adults or children involved in the program.
NeSU live meetings are facilitated from a neutral worldview, or non-religious point-of-view so that families from both faith and non-faith backgrounds can feel comfortable together in a virtual setting. NatureGlo does not teach origins in her online courses. During the live meetings, it is best to leave out hot button topics such as religion and politics. However, if children do choose to have discussion groups around religion and or politics, we can provide a safe virtual container with "harm none" guidelines in place for such chosen discussions.
NatureGlo's eScience Unschool online is a service provider, lead by facilitator, Gloria Brooks. Therefore, NeS is not a school and cannot be accredited. Parents can save any student work completed during the NeSU virtual program in a student portfolio for their state requirements.
No. NatureGlo’s eScience Unschool does not use curriculum or standardized tests in any of the virtual meetings or within the pre-recorded courses. NeSU has always been and continues to be liberated from standardized education and teaching to the test. All of Gloria's online curriculum has been creatively written by her and piloted with her students online since 2011. We believe that learning should go beyond the standards, not by measuring and tediously comparing our curriculum to the standards, but, rather be liberated from them.
Yes, however, parents are the record keepers as NeS is an unschool service provider. Check with your state homeschool requirements and work with your child to adjust their chosen NeSU online classes study to those requirements. NeSU online lessons, work completed for any of the online courses and live online virtual meeting hours can recorded in your homeschool records and be applied as credit to any high school transcript or other reporting. All NeSU online courses have more than enough content to fulfill work for a substantial amount of credit hours, if you and your child agree to go that route. Parents and students simply record how many hours of work are put into each lesson per course or stand-alone lesson.
Class work includes total participation in viewing recorded lessons to their entirety, participating in the weekly live meetings, completing the study guides, doing the Quizlets (if provided), viewing all content given per lesson (web pages, downloads, and videos) on NeSU’s Virtual Library of web resources. Credit hours can also include student completion of multiple short projects or one lengthy project per class. Student project and activity ideas are usually available per lesson taught from that lesson’s web resource page within the course.
You'll need a high-speed Internet connection. You can use any device with a microphone and a webcam. Most laptops, tablets, and phones come with a built-in camera and microphone. NeSU uses Zoom for the live weekly online meetings. The Zoom live classroom has webcam and microphone capabilities. NatureGlo uses both her webcam and microphone to communicate with the children and their parents. Children and parents, likewise are given permissions to turn on their webcams and mics to answer questions, do a show and tell, make a presentation or share any content.

Yes and no. Some high unschool school kids may want to have some or all of their coursework graded so they can record that in their high school transcripts. NatureGlo doesn’t personally grade student work done for the self-paced online courses, however, study guides can be used by parents or their students, many of which include answer keys, for grading. Also, many lessons include an online automated program called Quizlet which offers online games, flashcards for study and an automated graded test which parents and or their children can use to collect grades per lesson. Parents and or their children are responsible for recording the Quizlet and or study guide grades by tallying them all up at the end of the course to get a final grade average per course. I offer a certificate of completion for all 6-week online courses.
In order for your child to have his or her name show up on the online course comments, you will need to set up a separate account per child.
Account Set-up for One Child
Account Set-up for Multiple Children
For setting up multiple child email accounts, each child will need their own separate login email and password. Parents can create several free sub-email accounts within a free Gmail account or another email provider. I'm not aware of any other email provider that offers sub-email accounts under one email account, but they are probably available. Please research your own provider if yours is different or you don't want to use Gmail. Google the latest instructions with the search, “How to set up sub-email accounts in Gmail (or your chosen provider).”
After each child’s email account is set up, contact me via the Support Desk chat in the lower right-hand side of this site. I will provide you with pre-paid membership vouchers per child account. Let me know how many children you are ready to set up accounts for and enroll and I will email you that number of vouchers for the membership.
Gloria Brooks aka NatureGlo, uses a gentle facilitation method that helps keep order within the virtual environment, yet allows a lot of student-led opportunities. Gloria uses leading questions to stimulate child engagement and draw out their specific learning interests. She also cultivates child-lead activities by connecting children with similar life learning interests.
